Orthosis Style

...

Orthosis Style provides a reference as to how the foot orthosis will be finished in a laboratory environment.

Tip

For Machined EVA orthoses the Orthosis Style is achieved manually, not within computer-aided design.

Full Length

A Full Length orthosis will be shaped to the selected Orthosis Size (US Foot Size) and Orthosis Top Width (US).

Note

If Refer to Insole Template is selected from the To Fit Shoe option list then a note will be provided on the prescription to refer to this attached template.

3/4 Length

A 3/4 Length orthosis will be modified to end proximal to the MPJ's. This adjustment is often requested when footwear is narrow, or shallow distal to the MPJ's.

Note

Please be aware of any orthosis modification option that extends distally to the MPJ's may be adversely affected by requesting the 3/4 Length option.

Sulcus Length

A Sulcus Length orthosis will be modified to end distal to the sulcus of the foot. This adjustment is often requested when footwear is narrow, or shallow distal to the sulcus.

Note

Please be aware of any orthosis modification option that extends distally to the sulcus may be adversely affected by requesting the Sulcus Length option.

Hook/Cobra

A Hook/Cobra orthosis will be modified to end proximal to the MPJ's. In addition, the lateral arch and centre of the heel will be removed. This adjustment is often requested when the orthosis requires fitting in a women's dress shoe (e.g. - high heeled shoe).

Note

Please be aware that the entire lateral arch will be removed when selecting Hook/Cobra. If you intend to provide lateral wedging within your orthosis then this will be adversely affected.

Sizing Style

Sizing Style defines the particular sizing classification for Machined EVA orthosis manufacture.

There are several default options, which are listed below.

Tip

Our LaserCAM Orthotics sizing templates may be purchased to assist with accurate sizing.

Men's (Wide)

This selection denotes a Men's US sizing convention that is specific to LaserCAM Orthotics computer-aided design software.

...

Women's Athletic (Medium Width)

This selection denotes a Women's Athletic US sizing convention that is specific to LaserCAM Orthotics computer-aided design software.

...

Women's Dress (Narrow Width)

This selection denotes a Women's Dress US sizing convention that is specific to LaserCAM Orthotics computer-aided design software.

...

Orthosis Size (US Foot Size)

Warning

Remember to size the orthosis based on both the length and the width of the foot.

Orthosis Size (US Foot Size) defines the size that will be used during computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacture.

...

Tip

Est. Orthosis Length is displayed below the Orthosis Size (US Foot Size) input. It is commonly recommended that the Est. Orthosis Length be at least 25mm greater than the length of the foot.

Sizing Conversion (Length)

A sizing conversion chart has been provided below to assist with LaserCAM Orthotics sizing.

...

Orthosis Thickness

Orthosis Thickness specifies the thickness of a Machined EVA orthosis at it's thinnest regions. These regions are most commonly the forefoot and centre of the heel.

...

Image Removed

Tip

You should consider Orthosis Thickness in conjunction with EVA Density and Patient Weight.

Orthosis Top Width (US)

Orthosis Top Width (US) provides a reference for the width of the Machined EVA orthosis.

The default selection mirrors the selection of Orthosis Sizing (US Foot Size).

Warning

Not requesting a specific Orthosis Top Width (US) may result in orthosis that are too narrow, have incorrect heel cup height, heel cup depth, and poor conformation to medial and lateral longitudinal arches.

...

Plantar Grind

Plantar Grind is a manual adjustment made to the plantar surface of a Machined EVA orthosis. Material is removed from the plantar surface of the midfoot region to allow for improved shoe fit.

The depth of a Plantar Grind is greatest at the medioplantar aspect and gradually tapers to minimal depth at the lateroplantar aspect of a Machined EVA orthosis.

...

Pre-Plantar Grind

The image below shows an orthosis before a Plantar Grind has been applied.

Image Removed

Post-Plantar Grind

The Plantar Grind depth can be measured by a technician and material can be removed with an EVA bench grinder.

Image Removed

Tip

Measuring the required depth for a Plantar Grind can be difficult. The best method is to remove the existing insole from the footwear and measure the distance from the ground to the plantar midfoot region.

Tip

We highly recommend providing a measurement of Plantar Midfoot Width to ensure that your 45° Cutout is perfectly adjusted for shoe fit.

Plantar Midfoot Width

Plantar Midfoot Width is provides a reference for the manual plantar midfoot edging of a Machined EVA orthosis.

Tip

If you measure the required Plantar Midfoot Width you will experience an easier fitting experience in clinic. This is best measured using inside callipers.

Plantar Heel Width

Plantar Heel Width is provides a reference for the manual plantar heel edging of a Machined EVA orthosis.

Tip

If the shoe has a removable insole you can trace this for a perfect fit.

Warning

It is highly recommended that you attach a tracing of the removable insole within the patient's footwear. You should also tick the Refer to Insole Template option.

Extra Soles

Extra Soles allows a user to request an additional sole be manufactured with a specific thickness and material selection.

This Extra Sole will be manufactured to match the plantar profile of the Machined EVA orthosis.

Warning

It is highly recommended that you attach a tracing of the removable insole within the patient's footwear. You should also tick the Refer to Insole Template option.

To Fit Shoe

The To Fit Shoe section has several fields that allow a user to indicate particular fitting requirements.

Brand

A laboratory may provide additional shoe brand options for quick fitting selection.

Shoe Code

A user may input a particular code that assists laboratory technicians to a particular shoe.

Info

For example, if you are selecting Revere from the Brand list, then you will need to enter the Shoe Code. This can be found on the inside of the shoe alongside the sizing information. If your laboratory offers Revere as a brand option, then this code will allow technicians to correctly size Machined EVA orthoses for a perfect fit.

Refer to Insole Template

The Refer to Insole Template checkbox allows a user to quickly indicate that a template has been attached to the prescription from the Notes & Attachments page of LaserCAM Prescribe.

Shoe Provided

The Shoe Provided checkbox allows a user to quickly indicate that a shoe has been sent directly to the laboratory for reference. The orthoses will likely be placed on-hold until the shoes arrive at the laboratory.

Additional Options

The Additional Options section has several options that allow a user to indicate particular fitting requirements.

Sneaker Grind

Sneaker Grind is a rounding of the plantar edge of a Machined EVA orthosis that allows for improved fit in certain footwear.

Pre-Sneaker Grind

Prior to manually applying a Sneaker Grind the plantar profile of the orthosis has a sharp edge. This can cause an issue during shoe fit.

Image RemovedImage Removed

Post-Sneaker Grind

After manually applying a Sneaker Grind the plantar profile of the orthosis has a rounded edge. The plantar perimeter is first ground at a 60° angle and is then rounded.

Tip

Sneaker Grind can be especially helpful when fitting a Machined EVA orthosis at the heel region of a shoe.

Revere Velcro Fit

A Revere Velcro Fit is a manual adjustment of a Machined EVA orthosis that involves the attachment of Velcro® strips to the plantar surface of the orthosis.

...

Density & Colour
